One Room Schoolhouse

A window into education's past

The Lost Lake School was in use as a one-room school from 1876 until 1953. It stood at the corner of County Road FW and State Hwy 73. It was donated to the historical society by Delwyn and Mary Biel and was moved to the society property on July 7, 2009.

The restoration work was performed mainly by our hard-working volunteers with a few projects requiring the use of paid contractors. Repairs included the replacement of the old plaster ceiling with drywall, new siding, new windows, replacement of damaged floor boards, building of a new chimney enclosure, refinishing of the interior window frames, and new concrete steps and sidewalk.

Once the restoration of the building was complete, the staging of an authentic one-room school began.

The pictures below show the interior in 1935, the 2009 building move, and the restored building we enjoy today.
